3.5-hour Irishman Martin Scorsese with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel on Netflix.
$ 105 million - cost of film rights; $ 159 million - this is the total budget Netflix spent on the film.
And today, this gangster epic with great actors rejuvenated several times using CGI can be viewed on Netflix. During the creation, the film was accompanied by several setbacks and scandals: at first Paramount Pictures abandoned it because of a big budget, and then Netflix scandalized because of the “artificial limitation of cinema distribution”, because The Irishman appeared in the United States for less than a month and in less than ten movie theaters. But this is progress and trying to slow it down is pretty stupid.
I just started watching the film itself and while it looks like the best Netflix project. But this is not surprising, because it was originally produced not for this platform, unlike many of Netflix’s failed movie projects, but for Scorsese himself and the main actors, he became the new magnum opus after “Goodfellas” and “Casinos”.
